The first pilot in the world who received his pilot license with an electric plane was a Dutchman
Teuge 20th April 2022 - Dutchman Edwin van Voorthuizen is the first pilot in the world who received his pilot license with an electric plane (the Pipistrel Velis Electro). This took place at International Airport Teuge in The Netherlands at E-Flight Academy.
Student from the start
E-Flight Academy started last year in May as the first electric flight academy in Europe. They train pilots seven days a week with two fully electric planes. Edwin was a student from the very beginning. Before starting his electric flying lessons, he passed all his theory exams at once. Eight months ago, he flew his first electric solo. And Wednesday On the morning of April 20th, he became the first pilot in the world to receive his private pilot license with an electric plane.
MMore e-pilots are on their way
E-Flight Academy counts more than 30 active students and they receive an average of 25 try-out lessons request per month for electric flying. The fleet of E-Flight Academy will expand with one extra electric plane this month. And this summer they will open new electric flight academies in Germany and Bonaire.
