Who is this training for?

Do you have a pilot's license and enjoy flying, but want to further develop your skills to become an even better pilot, able to fly in even more conditions? Then the Night Rating Training is ideal for you!

A difference of day and night

During Night Training, you learn to fly at night according to Visual Flying Rules (VFR), which means you learn to fly by sight in the dark. This requires a whole new set of skills that you can sink your teeth into. You learn to deal with different visual references and to interpret instruments in reduced visibility. This not only improves your navigation and emergency procedures, but also makes you a better pilot - a difference of night and day ;). Moreover, you will enjoy the fantastic views during your night flights over illuminated cities and under bright starry skies.

You'll get more out of your license

In short, night flying lets you get more out of your license and increases your flexibility because you are no longer limited to just daylight hours. Often the weather conditions are also better at night, with less wind and thermal activity. In addition, it is a good investment in your career, as night flying experience is often a requirement for commercial pilots.

Note: The training is not possible with our electric aircraft, as they do not have lighting. Of course, we offset all CO2 emissions through our partner Just Diggit.

Content of this training

  • The price includes VAT, all landings, fuel and instruction. If more landings are needed or if extra hours are flown because certain exercises have to be repeated, this will be charged based on subsequent calculation.
  • You will receive 3 hours of theoretical training for the Night (A) qualification.
  • 5 hours of night flying time in a Single Engine Piston (our electric aircraft do not have lights, so we use our fuel model for this training. We fly on MoGas and CO2 emissions are of course offset).
  • 4 hours of flying with an instructor.
  • 1.5 hours of cross-country navigation flight with one dual cross-country flight of at least 50 km (27 NM).
  • 5 solo take-offs and 5 solo full-stop landings.
  • No Skill Test or Assessment of Competence is required; completion is evidenced by completion of training through course completion and an endorsement from the Head of Training in the logbook.
  • Although there is no exam, a certification change must be requested from KIWA to have the Night Rating Rating credited. The cost is around €120.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How long does the Night(A) course normally take?
  • The course can be completed in 2-3 evenings, but this may vary depending on student availability.
  • What is the maximum duration to complete the Night(A) training?
  • The training must be completed within a maximum period of 6 months.
  • What happens if I do not achieve the required standards within the minimum time?
  • If the required standards are not achieved within the allotted time, you must repeat part or all of the training flight. This may result in an extension of the course duration and additional costs. You will be kept well informed of this by the instructor
  • Is the flight training described the minimum required?
  • Yes, the training in the manual shows the minimum required training. Each training flight must reach a certain standard before moving on to the next flight.
  • What happens if I do not complete the Night(A) training within 6 months?
  • If training is not completed within 6 months, you may not meet the requirements to exercise PPL privileges for aircraft in VFR conditions at night. In this case, consult with your instructor for further steps.

Training location

The training starts (depending on the season due to daylight period and weather conditions) from Teuge airport but will mostly take place from an airport where night flying is allowed such as Lelystad or Stadtlohn. In summer, there are fewer airports available for night flying than in fall and spring. Therefore, most night flying training takes place in the fall/spring. Should the daylight period compared to Teuge's opening hours allow for take-off from Teuge just before dark, the flight to the training field is part of the night navigation. Should this not be possible (depending on the season), you will first perform a day-VFR navigation flight with instructor to the training field of choice (and back again after training). These flights are not part of the night flying training and are not included in the package. However, it is super fun and educational to do that again! In consultation we decide whether to return to Teuge after the night flight or stay overnight near the training location. This of course always depends on preferences and circumstances. So the Night rating is always organized in close consultation with our planning.

Incidentally, the training site may also be chosen by the student and can take place in other countries if desired. We are happy to provide a cost breakdown if you are interested in this.
