Are you a pilot and want to pass on your skills to a new generation of pilots? Do you want to be trained in the most sustainable way, with the newest aircraft and the most advanced flight school available? Then the Flight Instructor (FI) Course at E-Flight Academy is for you!
At E-Flight Academy, we train you to become an FI(A) (Flight Instructor Aeroplanes) through outstanding training. The training is of high quality and you mainly fly the latest electric aircraft, which provides a unique learning experience. You follow the entire training at E-Deck, our hangar at Teuge with good briefing rooms, great coffee and good atmosphere.
The training of the E-Flight Academy Flight Instructor (FI(A)) course consists of the following components:
- 31.5 hours of flight instruction, of which:
- 26.5 hours of DUAL instruction.
- 5 hours Mutual flying (two candidates fly together to practice flight demonstrations, or in case of one candidate together with an FI(FI) as DUAL flight instead of mutual flying).
- Technical Phase (Phase 1):
- Focus on technical skills of the student instructor including:
- High-quality control of the aircraft.
- Efficient and accurate demonstration of exercises.
- Provide direct and indirect coaching to students, monitor student performance and take notes.
- Acquire all necessary knowledge to teach the PPL student the theory required for flying and acting as PIC.
- Conduct long/short/pre- and post-meeting discussions in a structured, complete and relevant manner.
- Non-Technical Phase (Phase 2):
- Shifting focus to the human factors of an instructor interacting with a student.
- Different types of students are played by the course instructor, both in the technical and non-technical aspects of human/student behavior.
- Ongoing assessment of the PPL student, acting on progress or lack thereof, finding the necessary level of human interaction, etc.
- Both flight phases conclude with a Progress Check (PC). The PC of phase 2 is preceded by a Progress Test (PT).
- The price includes VAT, all landings, fuel and instruction. If more landings are needed or extra hours are flown because certain exercises have to be repeated, this will be charged on the basis of subsequent calculation. - Minimum Age: At least 17 years old at the start of the course. You must be 18 to obtain the FI(A) certificate.
- License Requirements: Hold a CPL(A) or ATPL(A), or a PPL(A) with a successful theoretical knowledge course for CPL(A), without completing the CPL(A) state exams.
- Valid SEP Class Rating.
- E-Conversion: For training in electric aircraft, the E-Conversion course must be completed. More about this E-Conversion.
- Be authorized to act as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) during the flight instruction course.
- Have received a minimum of 10 hours of IR instruction in aircraft (included in CPL courses, but not or only partially included in PPL courses). PPL(A) holders must demonstrate this with their (digital) logbook, of which a maximum of 5 hours may be instrument ground time in an FSTD.
- VFR Cross-Country Flying Experience: have completed 20 hours of VFR cross-country flight as PIC in aircraft.
- Total Flight Time: 170 hours total flight time as a pilot on airplanes, of which:
- At least 150 hours as PIC;
- At least 30 hours on Single Engine Piston experience, of which at least 5 hours in the 6 months prior to the pre-entry flight test;
- One VFR cross-country flight as PIC, including a flight of at least 540 km (300 NM) with full-stop landings at 2 different airfields. - Language proficiency: fluent English speaking (LPE level 4).
- Successfully pass a specific pre-entry flight test with a qualified FI within the 6 months prior to the start of the course to assess suitability for the course. This flight is included with the course. Should you not pass this pre-entry flight test it will be billed as a standard class.
The criteria to start the Flight Instructor Course
- How long does the course normally take?
The FI(A) training course at E-Flight Academy can be taken either full-time or part-time. Full-time training is preferred to get the most benefit. Full-time training lasts 6 weeks . However, this depends on weather conditions and technical limitations.
For part-time students, E-Flight Academy recommends attending the course a minimum of 3 days per week. Failure to achieve this may reduce the efficiency of the course and make it longer than desirable.
The course consists of both flight and ground training, with each training flight required to meet a certain standard before moving on to the next flight. If the required standard is not met within the allotted minimum time, it may be necessary to repeat (part of) the training flight, which will likely result in extending the course duration beyond the minimum hours. Exercises not completed within a flight according to the curriculum will be added to the next instructional flight in the IT system. Exercises performed below grade will be repeated more frequently within the remaining curriculum as programmed in the IT system. - Are there any additional costs I should consider?
We try to include as much as possible in the price. Think of electricity, 125 landings, instruction and of course all the use of the aircraft for the minimum number of hours. The exam is not included in the price. For the exam you rent our aircraft and an independent examiner. We help you organize this, but this cost is not included in the package.
